Tanaka Phinisi at a Glance

Tanaka is a 35-metre traditional-modern phinisi built in Bira, Sulawesi, in 2014. Constructed from ironwood and teak, the two-masted vessel combines Indonesian shipbuilding heritage with the space and equipment expected from a modern liveaboard. A 7.4-metre beam and 2.3-metre draft give the yacht substantial interior volume while retaining a classic sailing profile.

A turbocharged 280 HP Mitsubishi engine supports a published cruising speed of approximately 8 knots. The vessel carries up to 14 guests and a crew of ten, making it suitable for small dive groups, families and private expedition charters.

Five Cabins for Up to 14 Guests

Tanaka has five air-conditioned cabins, each with an en-suite bathroom and hot-water shower. The published layout includes two Deluxe Cabins, two Superior Cabins and one Family Suite. Bed configurations combine double, single and bunk beds, allowing the crew to allocate couples, friends and families while respecting the vessel-wide maximum of 14 guests.

The Family Suite is the largest accommodation and includes a private balcony. Individually controlled air conditioning, wardrobes and practical storage support longer voyages. Exact bed allocation should be confirmed for the intended group because several cabins can sleep more people than their normal operating occupancy.

Dining, Lounges and Deck Space

Shared areas include indoor and outdoor dining spaces, a lounge and bar, a library, a dedicated relaxation deck and a broad sun deck with loungers and beanbags. The aft living area is shaded for meals and social time, while the upper deck provides an open viewpoint for sunsets and sailing days.

A watermaker and a published freshwater stock of approximately 3,600 litres support multi-day itineraries away from port. Hot water is available in the guest bathrooms.

Diving and Water Activities

Tanaka is configured as a dive liveaboard with a dedicated dive deck, tanks, rental equipment and Nitrox available on demand. A speedboat tender supports dive transfers and shore landings. Guests should verify current rental sizes, guide ratios, certification requirements and any Nitrox surcharge before departure.

Non-diving equipment includes snorkelling sets, two kayaks and a stand-up paddleboard. This mix allows divers and non-divers to share the same voyage without every activity being tied to a scuba schedule.

Komodo and Raja Ampat Routes

Tanaka sails Komodo National Park from Labuan Bajo and is published for year-round Indonesian diving. Typical Komodo programmes can include Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Gili Lawa, with dive plans adjusted for current, weather and guest experience.

Seasonal Raja Ampat programmes are also published, particularly from November through February. These longer expeditions operate from different embarkation points, so guests should confirm the vessel's position and schedule before arranging flights.
