Komodo is essentially the whole programme rather than one region among several, and the boat has worked it since 2004.
Five-night trips out of Labuan Bajo start with a check dive at Sebayur Kecil, then take in Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, The Cauldron, Golden Passage and Manta Point, with Gili Banta and Sangeang Api reached on the longer runs.
Land time covers the Padar viewpoints, Rinca and the ranger-led dragon walk.
The operator counts around fifty dive sites in its working list.
Sumbawa is the only water Moana works outside Komodo National Park, and it appears on the longer bookings rather than the standard five-night schedule.
Gili Banta sits between the two, and the volcanic reefs off Sangeang Api are the furthest point west she normally reaches.
Since almost the whole programme is Komodo, treat this as the extension you ask for when chartering rather than something on the published calendar.
Suits: couples and friends where not everyone dives. The two-fare structure means a snorkeller pays for the boat rather than for a dive package, and with three guides aboard for ten guests the two groups genuinely run in parallel instead of one waiting on the other. Divers who want a Komodo specialist rather than a boat passing through are also well served: she has worked these waters since 2004.
Also works for: small private groups. Ten guests is close to charter size already, and the whole boat can be booked.
Less suited to: anyone wanting Raja Ampat, Banda or a premium cabin. Moana stays in Komodo, and all five cabins are below deck to the same standard, so there is no suite, no balcony and no sea-view upgrade to buy.
Moana is a 30-metre gaff-rigged phinisi schooner built at Tanah Beru in South Sulawesi across 2003 and 2004, entirely in teak and ironwood, and refitted since. She is 24 metres on deck with a 6.5-metre beam, 73 gross tons, and carries 270 square metres of sail. She is owner-operated by Stefan and Tanja Campo, and most of the crew has been aboard more than eight years, which is the sort of continuity that does not show up in a specification list but shows up everywhere else.
Five cabins, ten guests, eleven crew. Three cabins have double beds and two are twins, all below deck, all with en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and sprung mattresses. The trade is space rather than cabin grades: there is no suite, no balcony and no hierarchy, and instead a 90-square-metre main deck with an air-conditioned salon, a long outdoor dining table and a wide chill-out area at the bow. Blankets are set out for guests who would rather sleep on the open deck than in the cabin they paid for.
Trips are sold two ways, and the difference is only the diving. A Diving Trip includes all dives on the itinerary. A Cruising Trip includes everything else and no dive package, with individual dives payable on board, which suits snorkellers and occasional divers rather than making them buy tanks they will not use. Three guides work the boat so divers and snorkellers run separate programmes. There is a dedicated dive deck at the stern, a custom speedboat tender and stand-up paddleboards.
She works Komodo National Park almost exclusively, on five-night trips out of Labuan Bajo departing and returning at 11:00, with private charter available. The route covers Sebayur Kecil, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, The Cauldron, Golden Passage and Manta Point, with Gili Banta and Sangeang on the longer runs and land time at Padar, Rinca and the dragon walk. Full board runs to five meals a day with fresh juices, coffee and soft drinks included; the bar stocks Bintang, wine and spirits.

Only the diving. A Diving Trip includes every dive on the itinerary. A Cruising Trip includes all the same food, cabins and service but no dive package, and individual dives can be bought on board. It is built for people who snorkel, or who dive occasionally rather than four times a day.
Ten at most, in five cabins, with twelve crew. There are three guides, which is what lets divers and snorkellers run separate programmes instead of one group waiting for the other.
Yes, and the crew provides blankets for it. The 90-square-metre main deck has an outdoor dining table and a wide chill-out area at the bow, and sleeping outside is offered as an option rather than merely tolerated.
Full board at five meals a day with fresh juices, snacks, Indonesian coffee, tea and soft drinks. The bar stocks local Bintang beer, imported wine and spirits, which are charged separately. National park fees are not included.
No. All five are below deck and finished to the same standard, three with double beds and two with twins, so the choice is about bed layout rather than grade.
Trips depart Labuan Bajo at 11:00 and return there at 11:00 on the final morning. Most guests overnight in Labuan Bajo beforehand, though the early flights from Bali also work.
The scheduled trips are six days and five nights, Labuan Bajo to Labuan Bajo, departing at 11:00 and returning at 11:00 on the final morning. Private charter is more flexible and runs from three nights up to eight.
Across 84 verified reviews on LiveAboard.com she averages 9.5 out of 10. Food is the standout at 9.9, crew 9.5 and diving 9.5, with vessel and value both at 9.3. The food score is consistent with the boat sourcing fruit and vegetables from farms around Labuan Bajo and fish from local markets.
