Komodo

Fenides operates scheduled Komodo trips from Labuan Bajo, including four-, five- and eight-night departures. The published dive rhythm is three day dives plus an optional night dive on applicable days.

Routes can combine central, southern and northern Komodo according to trip length and conditions. Surface activities include paddleboarding, kayaking and the Komodo dragon trek. National park and port fees are additional for cabin bookings.

Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat appears in the eastern Indonesia programme as longer expedition voyages, sometimes combined with Halmahera or a Banda Sea repositioning route. Embarkation and disembarkation ports vary by departure and can include Sorong or Ternate.

The vessel's two tenders support diving and shore access, while the camera room provides six workstations for underwater-photography equipment.

Surf and expedition travellers. The published calendar includes dedicated surf itineraries as well as dive voyages in Komodo and eastern Indonesia.

Points to consider

Cabin sizes differ. The 20 sqm master suite is larger than the four 12 sqm double and twin cabins.

The schedule is activity-led. Dive departures start early and are structured around multiple daily dives.

Mandatory charges apply to cabin bookings. The operator lists USD 250 in park fees and USD 50 in port fees per trip, separate from optional extras.

Only one cabin takes a third guest. The eleventh berth is the additional bed in the master suite.

About This Vessel

Fenides is a 41-metre ironwood-and-teak phinisi built in 2019 for dive, surf and expedition cruising. The vessel measures 7.7 metres across, draws 2 metres and cruises at 9 knots. It carries up to 11 guests with 11 crew.

Five ensuite cabins comprise one 20-square-metre master suite, two 12-square-metre upper-deck doubles and two 12-square-metre lower-deck twins. The master can take a third guest; the four other cabins take two guests each. All cabins are air-conditioned and have private bathrooms.

The dive setup includes Bauer compressors, a CompAir nitrox system, two 50 hp tenders and a climate-controlled camera room with six workstations. Scheduled dive trips publish three day dives plus an optional night dive on applicable days. Paddleboards, kayaks, wakeboard and water skis are also carried.

Indoor facilities include a saloon, bar and dining area. Outdoor spaces include an open-air dining area, lounge seating and two sundecks. The operator publishes Wi-Fi via satellite, but does not identify the satellite-service brand on its current website. Fenides offers both whole-boat charter and cabin bookings on selected departures.

Booking runs through SIORA, the park's own system, and is handled by a licensed operator before arrival. There is no ticket window at the gate.
A daily cap of 1,000 visitors applies across the park, split between Komodo, Rinca and Padar and the dive sites around them.
Entry runs in sessions rather than all day, which is why a boat's arrival time is set by the park and not by the crew.
A drone permit is separate, expensive, and has to be requested well in advance.

Amounts are payable in rupiah; dollar figures are converted at Rp 17,900 and rounded. A rise in the foreign rate was under government review in April 2026 and had not taken effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a single cabin on Fenides, or do I have to charter the whole boat?

Both are sold. On scheduled departures the operator sells cabins individually at USD 880 per person per night for a double or twin in Komodo, or USD 980 for the family suite. In eastern Indonesia the same cabins are USD 1,020 and USD 1,120. Whole-vessel charter is USD 9,010 per night in Komodo and USD 10,470 per night for Raja Ampat, Alor, Banda and Halmahera.

What is the shortest trip available?

Four nights, on the Central Komodo departures out of Labuan Bajo. Eastern Indonesia trips run much longer, typically ten or eleven nights, because they cover repositioning distances between Ambon, Sorong and Ternate.

How much diving is there on a typical trip?

Three dives per day plus an optional night dive from day two onward, which the operator puts at close to thirty possible dives on a full eight-night trip. The published daily rhythm is a sunrise dive at 06:30, a second at 10:00, a third at 14:00 and a night dive at 18:30, with meals and surface activity in between.

Is nitrox included?

Yes. Nitrox fills are inside the rate, produced by an onboard CompAir membrane system alongside Bauer compressors. Nitrox certification is not included and runs USD 380. Rental dive gear is USD 50 per day if you are not bringing your own.

What is not included in the rate?

National park fees at USD 250 per trip and port fees at USD 50 per trip are compulsory additions. Optional extras are dive gear rental, certification courses at USD 430 to USD 730, laundry at USD 10, massage at USD 40, alcoholic drinks, crew gratuities, flights and insurance. Indonesian VAT is already inside the quoted rate.

Does Fenides really run surf trips?

Yes. The published 2026 calendar includes dedicated surf expeditions in Sumba and a Surf Raja Ampat and Halmahera voyage. Surf schedules and operating areas vary by departure.

Where does she go and when?

Komodo out of Labuan Bajo through the middle of the year, Sumba for surf in August and September, then east from October: Ambon to Sorong for the Banda Sea, and Sorong to Ternate and back for Raja Ampat and Halmahera through November and December. Alor is marketed as a destination but is not on the published 2026 schedule.
