Sape to Labuan Bajo Ferry: Planning the Sumbawa–Flores Crossing
Plan the Sape to Labuan Bajo public ferry using ASDP route and booking sources. Confirm your date, passenger or vehicle class and connection.

The Sape–Labuan Bajo ferry is a public crossing between Sumbawa and Flores for foot passengers and vehicles. If you are planning a Komodo island trip, book the park visit separately: this ferry is not a sightseeing boat and does not include a tour of the national park. ASDP listed the route as active in July 2026 and reported 12,903 passengers and 6,935 vehicles on it from January through May 2026. The date you choose, direction, passenger details and vehicle class determine what you can book. Verify the sailing and ticket inside ASDP’s current booking channel before you make an onward reservation.
Start with the correct ports and direction
Use Sape, Sumbawa → Labuan Bajo, Flores if you are travelling east; reverse both ports for the westbound trip. ASDP’s commercial-route map lists both directions, and its Sape and Labuan Bajo port pages identify the terminals. “Labuan Bajo harbour” is also used for tourist boat departures elsewhere in town, so send your driver the ferry terminal shown on your ASDP ticket rather than a generic marina pin.
ASDP described this as a 75-nautical-mile crossing in its May 2025 route report. That distance is context, not a quoted journey duration. Loading, sailing and check-in times need to come from the actual booking.
How to check the sailing and buy a ticket
- Go through ASDP’s official site to its Ferizy channel or the Trip Ferizy booking site named in ASDP’s 2026 notices. Select Sape and Labuan Bajo in the correct order.
- Enter the actual travel date, passenger names and, if applicable, vehicle registration and class. Check that they match the ID and vehicle you will use.
- Read the booking’s departure, check-in window and fare before payment; save the issued electronic ticket offline.
- Check ASDP’s current schedule announcement and call the operator if the route or date is missing. Its May 2025 announcement said the Sape branch updates schedules through its official channel; it did not promise an unchanged daily timetable.
- Reach the correct terminal within the ticket’s stated check-in window. Ask ASDP directly about vehicle loading, late arrival or a disrupted departure.

ASDP’s 2024 digital-ticketing notice named both Sape and Labuan Bajo among Ferizy ports and warned that identity or vehicle details that do not match can prevent check-in. Its June 2026 notice pointed travellers to Ferizy and Trip Ferizy for online purchase. Check the live interface because payment channels, cutoffs and available dates may change.
Why a timetable copied from a blog is risky
ASDP published specific sailing times in a 10 August 2025 announcement, while an earlier August 2023 notice described an entirely different, week-specific pattern. Neither is a confirmed timetable for September 2026 or your departure date. There is no fixed “every day at 10” claim on this page. Do not build an unprotected same-day flight or tour connection around an old timetable.
If the crossing connects to a komodo tour 3 days 2 nights, compare the ferry’s arrival time, ferry terminal-to-boat transfer and the tour’s actual boarding cutoff. Leave an overnight buffer where the two booking terms would otherwise make a missed connection costly. The general arrival guide covers other ways into town.
Price depends on what crosses
Choose the correct passenger and vehicle category. A foot-passenger ticket is not the price for a motorcycle, car or their occupants, and vehicle classes differ. ASDP changed the Sape–Labuan Bajo tariff in November 2024 and included the route in a temporary school-holiday discount from 20 June to 5 July 2026. A promotional figure from that expired period is not the current normal fare. The checkout amount for the exact date and classification is the useful number; retain a screenshot or issued ticket if comparing plans.
Before buying a vehicle ticket, confirm with the booking system or ASDP that its class matches your vehicle and that all required passengers and documents are recorded. Do not assume the driver automatically covers every passenger. For questions, ASDP lists its contact centre on the port pages.
What to bring and check before leaving town
- Passenger identity details matching the booking; vehicle registration and documents if taking a vehicle.
- The e-ticket available offline and the booking’s check-in and boarding instructions.
- A plan for the trip to the correct terminal and for the onward journey after disembarkation.
- Water, necessary medication and essential items accessible during the crossing, within operator rules.
- A later connection with enough slack for weather and operational changes.

This guide is based on operator notices available 23 September 2026. It does not contain a live sailing inventory or current quoted fare; those must be confirmed for the selected date. The public ferry and the Lombok–Komodo tourist boat are separate services with different routes and inclusions.
Use the operator’s page carefully
ASDP’s public Sape port page shows the terminal and directs travelers to ticketing, but some template fields on that page display placeholder labels rather than usable tariff or timetable data. Treat the paid booking interface and direct ASDP confirmation as the authoritative source for a chosen sailing. A screenshot of a generic port page does not reserve a foot-passenger or vehicle place.
Make the next connection explicit
| After disembarkation | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Hotel in Labuan Bajo | Terminal-to-hotel transfer, reception time and luggage capacity. |
| Komodo boat on another day | Operator’s pickup point, park reservation and an overnight buffer if needed. |
| Flight from LBJ | Transfer to airport and airline check-in cutoff; ferry arrival is not guaranteed flight protection. |
| Travel farther into Flores | Driver or shared transport pickup at the ferry terminal, not the tourist marina. |
For the reverse crossing, repeat the search with the ports reversed. A ferry fare and schedule can differ with date, vehicle class and availability. Keep the issued ticket, passenger list and vehicle classification together so the check-in desk can match the booking.
After confirming the ferry arrival, compare Komodo tour packages and allow a buffer before any fixed boat departure.
Keep passenger and vehicle changes together
If the departure date changes, ask ASDP whether the passenger names, vehicle registration and class remain attached to the revised booking. A screenshot of the old ticket is not confirmation of a new sailing. Keep the revised ticket and any operator instruction available offline.
For an onward hotel or tour, communicate the new estimated arrival without promising a connection the ferry operator has not guaranteed. Confirm which terminal your driver will use. The public crossing moves people and vehicles between islands; it does not replace the separate national-park boat reservation.
Does the ferry ticket include a Komodo sightseeing trip?
No. Treat the Sape–Labuan Bajo public crossing and a national-park excursion as separate services with their own meeting points and terms.
Check the exact route, date and classification through the operator’s booking channel, Ferizy.
