Komodo

Komodo is the main season, May to September, out of Labuan Bajo on a three-night minimum. Four-day itineraries stay north — Kalong for the flying foxes, Rinca for the ranger trek, Siaba Besar for turtles, Manta Point and Pink Beach — while longer charters push south to Horseshoe Bay, Manta Alley and Cannibal Rock, and west to Gili Banta and Sanggeang. Divers get Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar and Golden Passage in the strait. Eight- and nine-night versions add Sumbawa: Moyo, Satonda crater lake and the whale sharks at the Saleh Bay fishing platforms.

Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat runs November to April out of Sorong, on a five-night minimum rather than three. The longer floor reflects the distances: anchorages are further apart and the schedule is set by tide and light. This is the half of the year when Komodo is off the programme entirely, so dates are effectively fixed by season rather than preference.

Banda Sea

October only, and on request. The Banda crossing sits between the two main seasons as a repositioning leg, so availability is narrow and depends on where the boat is being moved. Worth asking about early if the dates are flexible.

Alor

Alor comes on the seasonal repositioning legs rather than as a standalone charter. The diving is cooler and far more current-driven than Komodo: drifts through the Pantar Strait at one end, silt and rubble muck sites around Kalabahi Bay at the other. With eight guests and two tenders, divers and non-divers can be split here, which matters when the conditions suit one group and not the other.

Ambon

Ambon is a turnaround port on the eastern circuit, and the diving is muck rather than reef. The bay sites are sponge, silt and rubble, shallow and slow, the sort of ground where a macro lens earns its place. Nitrox is included in the rate on Nataraja with no surcharge, which on profiles like these buys bottom time rather than depth.

Halmahera

Halmahera is the least scheduled water in the range of this boat and appears only on the longer eastern crossings. Weda Bay is the draw: walking sharks, endemic critters and reef that almost no other vessel is working. Expect long passages between anchorages and a route decided by weather rather than a published itinerary.

Sumbawa

Sumbawa sits on the passages west of Komodo, usually as part of a longer repositioning rather than a destination in its own right. The crater lake at Satonda, the volcanic slopes off Sangeang and the quiet bays of Moyo break up the crossing. Diving is secondary on this stretch; it is about landfall and getting the boat to where the season is.

Who This Suits

Suits: families and mixed groups of up to eight. Every cabin has a convertible bed and two take a child bed, which is rare at this size — most eight-guest phinisi are sold as four fixed doubles. Also suits divers who want tanks available without committing to a dedicated dive boat: compressor, nitrox and an instructor are on board, and excursion dives are inside the rate.

Less suited to: larger groups, since eight is the hard ceiling, and anyone wanting a fixed departure — Nataraja is whole-vessel charter only, with no cabin sales.

About This Vessel

Nataraja is a 32-metre phinisi launched in 2015 by Yann Martinie, co-founder of Pacific High, and she is the vessel the rest of that fleet grew out of. Three ensuite cabins take up to eight guests against a crew of eleven, one of them a dedicated cruise director. The layout is unusually flexible for a boat this size: every cabin carries a convertible bed of some kind, which is why she sells as readily to families with children as to groups of friends.

She is built in ironwood and teak, runs a 260 HP engine at an average seven knots, and carries a 5,000 litre-a-day watermaker, two tenders and a 315-litre dive compressor. Diving is run properly rather than bolted on: certified instructor on board, Discover Scuba for beginners, nitrox and new gear. She is not a dedicated dive boat, though, and the programme leans as much on snorkelling, shore trips and long anchorages as on tanks.

The season splits three ways. Komodo from May to September out of Labuan Bajo, the Banda Sea in October by request only, and Raja Ampat from November to April out of Sorong. Minimum charter is three nights in Komodo and five in Raja Ampat, rising to seven over Christmas and New Year. Rates include marine park, harbour and community fees, all meals, soft drinks, snorkelling and excursion dives for certified divers, land and sea transfers, Starlink and massages when available, which is a broader inclusion list than most vessels at this level.

Three beds fit without the room feeling packed: a king at 180 x 200, a single at 90 x 200, and a third at 80 x 200 that folds away into a sofa during the day. Minimum durations follow the same policy across the Pacific High fleet, set by cruising ground rather than by boat. Komodo and surroundings out of Labuan Bajo is three nights. Raja Ampat north and central out of Sorong is five, south only is six, south and central is nine, and the full north-south-central run is eleven. Any Raja Ampat charter covering Christmas or New Year needs seven nights, and over the festive period the Komodo minimum also rises to seven. Komodo combined with Sumbawa starts at ten nights.
Included: marine park, harbour and community fees; three gourmet meals a day plus snacks, soft drinks, juices, coffee and tea; towels, toiletries and amenities; snorkelling excursions; shore excursions and island expeditions; excursion dives for certified divers; scuba and snorkelling gear, kayaks and paddleboards; massages, depending on availability; land and sea transfers between airport, yacht and hotel; and Starlink internet, subject to network coverage.
Not included: international and domestic flights and airport tax; dive insurance, mandatory for divers; travel insurance; alcoholic drinks; crew gratuities, which the operator puts at 5 to 10 per cent of the charter; dive courses and certifications; procurement of special food or drink outside the standard menu; and fuel surcharges on specialised itineraries to remote areas. One introductory dive per guest per charter is free, with additional intro dives at USD 70. Payment is a 40 per cent deposit within seven days of invoice, balance due 60 days before departure. Cancelling more than 60 days out forfeits the deposit; inside 60 days the full charter amount is retained.

Booking runs through SIORA, the park's own system, and is handled by a licensed operator before arrival. There is no ticket window at the gate.
A daily cap of 1,000 visitors applies across the park, split between Komodo, Rinca and Padar and the dive sites around them.
Entry runs in sessions rather than all day, which is why a boat's arrival time is set by the park and not by the crew.
A drone permit is separate, expensive, and has to be requested well in advance.
